Ruben made a name for himself as the sweet, soulful teddy bear who could make the world smile with a song. So it’s no surprise that after winning the title of American Idol, Ruben's debut album “Soulful” sold 416,500 copies in its first week, propelling the album to number one. The R&B tune "Sorry" was one of the album’s biggest hits, and the song "Superstar" earned him a Grammy nomination in 2004. Today, Ruben is more into Gospel than R&B, and his hit "I Need An Angel" grabbed the number one spot on the Gospel charts.
